Age Guidelines

Betty G. Birney's Humphrey books are aimed at 79 year-olds and written to be read independently by that age group. The content of the books is also appropriate to be read aloud to younger children.

From April 2011, Faber will publish Humphrey's Tiny Tales, a series of shorter adventures, which are perfect for reading to 5–7s and still just as fun and exciting for 7–9s.

Projects & Activities

Each month we will post new projects in the Fun-Fun-Fun section of this website, from simple paper crafts to Humphrey baking ideas. Please explore these with your children or students – we hope you enjoy them!

If you have any suggestions for fun projects for 5–9 year-olds, we would love to hear from you, at humphrey@faber.co.uk.

School Visits

Betty often tours schools in the UK, talking to children about how Humphrey was created, her hamster research, how she writes (and rewrites!) and everything else you wanted to know about Humphrey.

Betty will be in the UK in February 2011, and we will post her events schedule here soon.

For more information about school visits, and how to register your interest, please visit Betty's website

Lesson Plans

We are compiling a number of Humphrey lesson plans, which will be posted in this section. Please check back soon.
